What is a deductible? Why is this necessary?

Deductible also referred to as excess is the portion of any claim; as a period of time for which the company will not pay any benefit or as a percentage of the sum insured or a fixed amount that is not covered by the insurance policy. It is mutually agreed and is mentioned in the policy schedule to the Insurance Policy.
A deductible is important as makes the insured a co-owner of the policy by taking up a certain portion of the loss himself/ herself.

What is the age criterion I have to fulfil to be covered under your International travel policy? Or what is the maximum age for which you issue a policy?

Reliance General Insurance offers policies for children aged 6 months and above and to individuals up to 70 years. However if the insured is above 70 years then a medical check up is required.

You can choose a plan based on the number of travel days, amount of premium you want to pay and the amount and type of risks you want to be covered for.

What is the paperwork in need for buying a travel policy?

To take a travel insurance policy through us all you have to do is submit a duly filled proposal form along with the premium cheque.
Only in the case where a senior citizen between ages 60-70 years plans to take an insurance policy will we require him to undergo a medical test and submit the medical report.

In which countries are the International travel policies recognized / accepted?

The travel policies are recognized and accepted all over the globe. For your assistance we have International presence through the service provider. However Reliance general Insurance has special travel insurance plans depending on where you are travelling.

Can I buy insurance if I am going on a work permit abroad?

Reliance General Insurance has a special policy called the Pravasi Bhartiya Yojana Policy, covering individuals travelling under a work permit.

Can the existing International travel policy be extended to cover domestic travel as well?

An international policy is not extendable for domestic travel. Any medical or accident policy that you may have, will cover your for the relevant benefits while you are travelling within the country.

I am not a professional sports person. But I do play some sports like golf and cricket. Am I covered for these sports? Am I covered, if I meet with an accident while ballooning/gliding?

The travel insurance plan does not have any specific cover that takes care of sporting interests. In case you are part of an accident while playing leisure sports, provided it was not part of a competitive event, then you can make use of the Personal Accident cover of your policy.
However if you are involved in hazardous sports activities like bungee jumping, mountaineering, air gliding or ballooning, and meet with an accident, then the policy will not be able to cover you. Please view below a complete list of hazardous activities which are not covered.

Does the policy cover for dental treatment?

The policy covers you for dental treatment. The Company shall pay or reimburse to you expenses incurred on acute anesthetic treatment of a natural tooth or teeth.

How will my policy help me, in case I lose my passport?

In case you do lose your passport, your policy will reimburse you for actual expenses necessarily and reasonably incurred including travel that you may incur in obtaining a duplicate or fresh passport.

However the policy would not cover you in if your passport
Is confiscated or detained by customs, police or police authorities
Has been robbed and the same has not been reported to the local police within 24 hours and a written police report is obtained
Is lost on account of it being left unattended or forgotten in a public place or transport, hotel, apartment or a private place or vehicle.

What will happen if my baggage does not clear in time? Will my policy help me in any way?

The policy provides a reimbursement for the delay in transportation of checked-in baggage beyond 12 hours across all travel destinations that are mentioned in your ticket including all halts.

This cover for delay will not be available for:
  • Loss of property unless a Property Irregularity Report or other report issued by carriers is procured and submitted
  • Partial loss of the items contained in the checked-in baggage
  • Items contained in the checked-in baggage, which are valued in excess of US $ 100 without appropriate proof of ownership
  • Valuables, money, securities, tickets and passes or any other item(s) not declared
  • Losses arising from any delay, detention, confiscation by customs officials or other public authorities
  • Loss due to complete/partial damage of the checked-in baggage
  • Checked-in baggage delay on the inbound sector to India
  • This amount will be up to a maximum, as mentioned in your policy.

What if a Hand Bag is lost while travelling by airline, will it be covered?

The loss of handbag is not covered. The Policy pays or reimburses only for a delay in transportation of checked-in baggage accepted by a common carrier by which you/ insured would be traveling. It is also mandatory that the common carrier has issued a baggage receipt for the trip.

Will the Policy cover the expenses towards new passport incurred in India?

The Policy would pay the necessary expenses incurred in obtaining a duplicate or fresh passport after coming to India. However this will be up to the maximum sum insured mentioned in your policy.

How am I covered in case I meet with an accident and suffer injuries / any loss?

The travel policy covers will compensate you for any unfortunate outcomes/ losses of an accident that takes place during your travel. This compensation is different for various losses and is limited to the sum insured as mentioned in the plan.

If I suffer any loss while travelling by railway/ ship in a foreign country does my International travel policy help me in any way?

Our Travel Insurance Policy covers you up to the maximum amount mentioned in your policy as long as you are travelling in/ by an IATA certified carrier.

If I hire a car when travelling and meet with an accident will the policy cover me?

The policy has a personal liability cover that protects your liability under incidents that result in death, injury, damage to health or damage to the property of a third party. Also, you have the personal accident cover to take care of your hospitalisation expenses in case of any accidental injury

In case I fall sick and need hospitalisation, will the policy cover me for all my expenses?

In case you fall sick or you sustain any injury and are hospitalised, we will take care of all your expenses in a cashless manner. What's more, if you have been hospitalised for more than 2 consecutive days, you can avail of a daily allowance.

In case I am short of cash, can I avail of Financial Emergency assistance?

This is a special service that provides the insured financial assistance in times of financial emergency that may arise only due to theft or robbery.
In a situation where you are short of funds/ cash, this cover will not be able to help you.

What will happen in case the flight is hijacked?

In case your flight is hijacked, your policy will compensate to you up to the maximum amount as mentioned in your policy, post the first 12 hours of hijacking.

What happens if the flight is delayed?

In case your flight is delayed for more than 12 hours from the scheduled time, due to unforeseen circumstances like illness, death, delay due to bad weather, natural disaster; then we will reimburse to you up to the maximum amount as mentioned in your policy.

My entire family is travelling with me for 2 months. My house is going to be locked. In case there is a robbery/ theft or fire will the policy reimburse us?

The policy has a Home Burglary cover that protects your house and valuables from burglary &/or attempted burglary, up to the limit of Sum Insured.
This cover does not cover losses sustained due to fire or other perils.

I am a student? If I fall sick and have to repeat a semester will my policy help me in any way?

The travel policy has a cover named Study Interruption that provides compensation in case:
The insured is hospitalised for more than one consecutive month on account of any disease, illness, injury, terminal sickness or medical repatriation,
An immediate family member or the Sponsor of the insured expires, leading the insured to discontinue his/her studies for the remaining part of the current semester for which tuition fee has been paid.

Is a student covered for delay in exams?

A student travel insurance policy covers you for a specific period ( e.g. 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, so on till 730 days). If your examination is delayed, but it is still within this specific period, your insurance policy will cover you.
If case your examination is delayed resulting in an unanticipated extension beyond the specified period mentioned in your policy, you always have the option to extend your policy.

When is it beneficial to buy a corporate plan rather than buying individual travel plans?

A business or corporate travel insurance policy is beneficial in case you:
  • Have high number of employees travelling at different times
  • Have high number of travelling days
  • Want to cover certain risks for certain employees
  • Need worldwide coverage
  • Have high turnover of employees
  • Want to cover employees from various group companies
  • Minimize documentation
  • Simple and easy administration.

Under corporate travel policies, can one choose to cover only certain employees or is it compulsory insuring all our employees?

You can definitely choose the number of employees you would like to insure.
When you take an international travel policy through us we will issue you a comprehensive master travel policy that is based on the certain number of travel days as required by you. Employee names will not be mentioned on this master policy. Whenever any of your employees is travelling based on your intimation we will issue him/ her, a travel certificate that will indicate the number of days and the destination.
Apart from this, we also offer annual travel policies for specific employees who would be frequent travellers.

What documents will the company have to submit to purchase a corporate travel plan?

To take a travel insurance policy you just have to submit a complete and duly signed proposal form along with the premium payment.
In case you are availing of a short term travel policy, then you will have to fill and submit, an "employee intimation form" each time one of your employees' is travelling.

If we add/ delete/substitute a member to an already existing corporate/ group what is the implication on premium?

The corporate policy is designed to provide you convenience of usage. If you have opted for a short-term plan for a specific period of insurance and number of man-days, a float amount for your company would be created with us. As and when an individual employee travels, his details need to be intimated to us. The premium amount based on the employee's number of days of travel, age etc would be adjusted in this float amount. Similarly, you would need to intimate us as and when you add or delete a person. We will adjust the float amount

Can stand-alone policies of the company executives become part of corporate plan?

These policies cannot become a part of the corporate plan.
You can choose to continue with these standalone policies and therefore opt for those many less number of travel days in the group policy.
Alternatively if you want all the executives to be a part of one plan then you can cancel those stand-alone policies prematurely and make them a part of your corporate group policy.

How does one get the policy cancelled?

To cancel your policy all you have to do is submit a letter at any of our branch offices. Once we receive a written request from you your policy will be cancelled in a days' time.

How does Reliance General Insurance settle its claims?

TWe have appointed International SOS to facilitate claims service for our customers. Since they have worldwide presence, you will receive prompt service and your claims would settle quickly.

Does a claim have to be lodged or made in a specific time frame from the time of the accident?

It is recommended that you intimate your claim to ISOS as soon as you can.
It is important that you intimate us maximum within 30 days of any incident. Followed by the intimation you need to submit complete written proof of loss along with the signed claim form to us within maximum 30 days from the date of loss

Is FIR required on occurrence of an accident?

A FIR (First Information Report) is required in cases of:
  • Loss of passport
  • Claim under Home burglary insurance
  • Bail Bond
  • Accidental Claims under Personal accident section
  • Personal liability
  • Financial emergency

If there is no Hospital of International SOS where I stay will there still be cashless settlement?

You could get admitted to any registered hospital. If the claim amount is small we would advice you to pay it yourself and take a reimbursement when you comeback to India. However in case you do require it, you can request ISOS and they would provide you with the cashless facility.

Is pregnancy or disease/complication arising out of pregnancy covered?

Pregnancy is excluded under the Policy. However if any medical assistance is required to save the insured person's or the child's life then on the advice of the ISOS the policy may cover you for hospitalisation charges

Do I need to pay the doctor/hospital/service provider or will they bill the Reliance General Insurance?

In case of OPD (Out Patient department) treatment you will make the payment and then claim reimbursement for it from us.
In case of hospitalization we will settle the bills directly with the doctor/hospital/service provider provided the claim is notified to ISOS and cashless facility is approved.
If cashless is not approved you will have to make a payment yourself and claim reimbursement after submitting necessary documents.

If I sustain a loss on the last day of the Policy and continue treatment in abroad will the Policy be automatically extended to cover the loss?

The policy will cover you. If you sustain any disease/ illness / injury on the last day of your policy then please inform ISOS immediately. In such cases it is important that we get a clearance from ISOS that the insured is unfit to return to India.

If a loss sustained during the Policy period in abroad results in death or disability after coming to India. Will this be covered?

If you sustain a loss during the policy due to any insured peril resulting in an unfortunate death or disablement within 12 months from the date of the company shall process the claim as per terms and conditions of the policy in favor of beneficiary / nominee mentioned in the policy.

How long does it take to settle a claim?

Once the company receives all complete written proof of loss along with the signed claim form; they will process the claim within 7 working days.
