India allows export of non-basmati rice

Mumbai The Central government is allowing the exportation of a premium variety of non-basmati rice beginning Oct 15.

Exports of the variety, PUSA-1121, will be allowed only if the free-on-board price is at least USD1,200 per metric ton, the government said in a statement late Wednesday.

India imposed a ban on non-basmati rice exports earlier this year to improve domestic supplies and curtail rising inflation.
