LOCAL PRESS REPORTS
-- LCD maker Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp <3009.TW> plans to
set up a display module plant in northern Thailand next year to
meet demand from its major laptop PC clients there, the Economic
Daily News cited the company's president as saying.
-- Acer Inc <2353.TW> is considering launching low-price
computers next year and chances are high that Quanta Computer Inc
<2382.TW> could be its supplier, the Economic Daily said, without
citing sources.
-- Asustek Computer <2357.TW> expects to sell 250,000 mobile
phones under its own name in the Asia-Pacific region next year,
more than double this year's sales, the Commercial Times
reported. Asustek also plans to sell its own-brand cellphones in
China in the first quarter of next year, the paper said.
