    TAIPEI, April 2 (Reuters) - Taiwan stocks rose nearly 2 
percent on Wednesday following a jump on Wall Street and after 
president-elect Ma Ying-jeou said he wants to pass a revised 2008 
budget with more economic stimulus spending. 
    The main TAIEX share index <.TWII> had climbed 167.44 points 
to 8,587.16 at 0255 GMT, after major Wall Street indexes rose 
more than 3.5 percent on Tuesday. 
    The electronics sub-index <.TELI> gained 2.9 percent and the 
banking and insurance sub-index <.TFNI> was 2.4 percent higher. 
    Flat-panel maker AU Optronics <2409.TW> rose 3.4 percent. Its 
ADRs <AUO.N> surged 4.8 percent overnight. 
    AU and many other Taiwan technology companies export the 
majority of their products to the United States.
