Equity and debt issuance by Asia Pacific companies outside of
Japan surged in the first half of 2007 as firms went on a
fund-raising spree to capitalise on the region's booming economic
growth, while M&A activity climbed to record levels, boosting
revenues for investment banks.
Equity underwriting and regional M&A activity are expected to
continue firing on all cylinders for the rest of the year, but
volatile debt markets have put a number of debt offerings on the
shelf, and threaten to cut off private equity firms from funding
buyouts with cheap credit.
