MELBOURNE, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Australian shares rose 1.6
percent in early trade on Thursday, spurred by the top miners,
but the market trailed Wall Street's gains as investors focused
on disappointing earnings from insurer AMP Ltd <AMP.AX>.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 <.AXJO> climbed 88.8 points to
5,630.9, recouping all of Wednesday's losses.
New Zealand shares were flat. The benchmark NZX-50 index
<.NZ50> edged up 0.04 point to 3,545.806.
