The market surged in opening trade but it pared gains later. All the sectoral indices on BSE rose. Reliance Industries advanced. FMCG andauto stocks edged higher. The market breadth was strong. Most Asian markets were trading in red. US markets closed higher on Friday, 16 November 2007.
At 10:26 IST, the 30-share BSE Sensex was up 129.38 points or 0.66% at 19,827.754. At days high of 19,971.44, the Sensex had gained 273.08 points.
The broader CNX S&P; Nifty was up 37.1 points or 0.63% at 5,943.59.
The market breadth was strong. On BSE, 1,562 stocks advanced, while 212 stocks declined and 10 stocks were unchanged. 27 out of 30 stocks from the Sensex pack were in green.
The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 1.99% to 8,681.40 and the BSE Small-Cap index rose 2.59% to 10,649.41.
Index heavyweight and Indias largest private sector firm by market capitalisation Reliance Industries moved up 0.22% to 2878.
India's largest real estate firm by market capitalisation DLF rose 1.54% to Rs 951. It replaced Dr. Reddys Laboratories in Sensex today.
ACC (up 2.81% to Rs 1,068.90), Grasim Industries (up 2.62% to Rs 3,932) and NTPC (up 1.97% to Rs 2,69.50) edged higher.
TCS (down 0.56% to Rs 976.70), Satyam Computer Services (down 0.36% to Rs 427) and Wipro (down 0.11% o Rs 457.80) edged lower.
Auto stocks saw action today. Tata Motors (up 0.69% to Rs 703), Mahindra & Mahindra (up 0.96% to Rs 740), Hero Honda Motors (up 1.38% to Rs 704), Bajaj Auto (up 1.35% to Rs 2,380) and Maruti Suzuki India (up 0.43% to Rs 1,054) edged higher.
FMCG stocks rose. ITC (up 1.97% to Rs 209.20),Hindustan Unilever (up 1.52% to Rs 204.10) and United Spirits (up 1.66% to Rs 1,990) edged higher.
Most Asian markets were trading in red. Hong Kong's Hang Seng (down 0.87% at 27,373), Japan's Nikkei (down 0.12% at 15,137.02), Singapore's Straits Times (down 0.39% at 3,427.50), South Korea's Seoul Composite (down 0.74% to 1,911.94) edged lower. However Taiwan Weighted (up 0.1% at 8,773.88) edged higher
US markets closed higher on Friday, 16 November 2007 as investors ignored some credit concerns and the health of the overall economy. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 66.74, or 0.51%, to 13,176.79. Broader stock indicators also posted gains. The S&P; 500 index rose 7.59, or 0.52%, to 1,458.74. The Nasdaq Composite index gained 18.73, or 0.72%, to 2,637.24
The 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 86.53 points or 0.44% at 19,698.36, on Friday, 16 November 2007. The broader CNX S&P; Nifty ended down 5.25 points or 0.09% at 5906.85, on that day.

India's wholesale price index rose 3.11% in the 12 months to 3 November 2007, above the previous week's rise of 2.97%, government data released on Friday, 16 November 2007 showed. The annual inflation rate was 5.45% during the corresponding week of the previous year.
Crude oil prices advanced on Monday, 19 November 2007 as the dollar fell and some Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) members pushed for action to stem their declining purchasing power. US light crude for January delivery rose 71 cents to $94.55 a barrel. London Brent crude rose 67 cents to $92.29 a barrel.
As per provisional data, FIIs sold shares worth a net Rs 363.14 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of shares worth Rs 239.72 crore on Friday, 16 November 2007.
