TAIPEI, May 21 (Reuters) - Taiwan stocks opened down 0.36 
percent on Wednesday after a slide on Wall Street, extending a 
2.4 percent tumble in the previous day. 
    The TAIEX share index <.TWII> fell 32.32 points at the open 
to 9,036.57, following a nearly 1 percent drop for 
the Nasdaq <.IXIC>. HTC <2498.TW> shares fell 0.23 percent even 
after the company said it was making a major investment in its 
research and development resources. The broader electronics 
sub-index <.TELI> edged up 0.09 percent.
