SINGAPORE, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Platinum bounced on bargain 
hunting on Wednesday after falling to its lowest level in more 
than six months the previous day, while gold tumbled to a 
seven-week low on weaker oil prices and firmer U.S. dollar. 
    -- Spot platinum <XPT=> rose to $1,565/1,575 an ounce from 
$1,563.00/1,583.00 late in New York on Tuesday, when it hit an 
intraday low of $1,517 an ounce on fears of falling demand for 
autocatalysts due to poor car sales. 
    -- The most active Tokyo platinum contract for June 2009 
delivery <0#JPL:> on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange rose 106 yen 
per gram 5,432 in a technical rebound after tumbling by 300 yen 
daily limit the previous day. 
    -- Gold <XAU=> edged up to $878.55/879.55 an ounce from 
$876.35/877.95 late in New York. It hit an intraday low of $872.35 
an ounce on Wednesday, its lowest level since June 16. 
    -- The dollar climbed to seven-week peaks against the euro 
and a major currency basket on Tuesday, as oil prices plunged and 
the Federal Reserve maintained its focus on quelling persistent 
U.S. inflation pressure in the economy. [USD/] 
    -- Gold futures for December delivery <GCZ8> on the COMEX 
division of the New York Mercantile Exchange added $0.7 to 
$986.80 an ounce. 
    -- Spot palladium <XPD=> rose to $349.00/357.00 an ounce from 
$346.00/354.00 late in New York. 
    -- Silver <XAG=> edged up to $16.52/16.58 an ounce from 
$16.45/16.53 late in New York.
