Taiwan stocks rebound after Wall Street rise

    TAIPEI, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Taiwan stocks rose 0.42 percent on 
Wednesday following a rally on Wall Street, as blue-chip shares 
such as heavyweight electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision 
Industry <2317.TW> pushed the broader index higher. 
    The main TAIEX index <.TWII> rose 35.48 points to 8,410.75 by 
0150 GMT, recouping some of its losses from a sell-off the 
previous day. The electronics subindex <.TELI> rose 0.65 percent 
and the bank and insurance subindex <.TFNI> was up 0.4 percent. 
    "There is space for a rebound since the index should be 
supported at around 8,300 points, especially if the credit crisis 
starts to ease up in the U.S.," said Jerry Chang, who manages 
$45.5 million at National Investment Trust. 
    U.S. stocks rose on Tuesday after the sale of a Citigroup 
<C.N> stake suprred a rebound in financial stocks. [.N] 
    Top electronics parts maker Hon Hai Precision Industry, which 
makes Apple's <AAPL.O> iPhones and components for Dell <DELL.O> 
and Hewlett-Packard <HPQ.N>, gained 2.03 percent. 
    LCD maker AU Optronics <2409.TW> advanced 0.33 percent after 
media reports said the company would spend US$3 billion on 
Taiwan's first eighth-generation LCD plant. The broader 
optoelectronics index <.TOPI> was flat. 
    HOT STOCKS 
    -- Amtran Technology <2489.TW> jumped 5.15 percent after 
local media reported that its Vizio-brand LCD TVs logged 78,000 
units in sales in the first four days of the holiday shopping 
season in the United States, double its usual volume.
