Infosys may gain on reports of eyeing IT firm in UK

Infosys Technologies may see action following reports in a section of the media that the software exporter could make a move to acquire Britain's SmartStream Technologies for over 100 million pounds. SmartStream Technologies provides solutions for the financial services sector. SmartStream has more than 70 of the worlds top 100 banks as its clients, and enjoys 38% share of the transaction lifecycle management solutions market.

Hindustan Zinc said on Thursday it had raised lead prices by 5.6% to Rs 93,100 per tonne with immediate effect. It kept zinc prices unchanged at Rs 1,63,700 per tonne.

Drug firm Aurobindo Pharma said the drugs regulatory unit of Botswana had registered nine of its anti-AIDS products.

Software firm ICSA (India) has secured contracts worth Rs 32.30 crore from the state-run power utility in Andhra Pradesh.

The board of network services firm Gemini Communication has approved raising up to $35 million through various means.

BPO firm Firstsource Solution debuts on BSE and NSE today. The company had priced its IPO at the upper end of the Rs 54 - Rs 64 price band. The issue was subscribed 50 times, with aggressive bidding from FIIs.

Blue Dart Express on Wednesday reported a 20.7% fall in net profit in the December 2006 quarter to Rs 12.20 crore (Rs 15.40 crore). Net sales for the quarter surged 22.6% to Rs 182.20 crore (Rs 148.50 crore).

Software firm Panoramic Universal said on Wednesday its board had approved the acquisition of Vatsa Hotels for Rs 16 crore. The board also approved the acquisition of Ambitious Infrastructure. Both companies, after acquisition, will be its wholly-owned subsidiaries.

Tata Motors proposes to launch a model of Indica with direct injection common rail engines (Dicor) this year. Common rail technology enables a fine spray of compressed fuel into the combustion chamber, which results in better burn and hence a better drive coupled with fuel efficiency.

Indian Oil Corporation has reportedly shelved the plan to set up a LPG pipeline network, connecting its major refineries owing to lack of throughput. The project may be revived later following completion of the Paradip refinery project in Orissa.
