India clears purchase of 10 lakh tons of pulses from Myanmar

New Delhi The Union Cabinet Thursday approved a decision to import 10 lakh metric tons of pulses every year from Myanmar starting from the current fiscal year, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi.

"The decision will help improve the availability of pulses and stabilize their prices in the domestic market," Dasmunsi told reporters after a federal cabinet meeting.

The imports will be on a government to government basis, he said. Dasmunsi didn't say how long the arrangement would last.
